Who is Derrick (AUGUSTUS) Sutherland?
Derrick (AUGUSTUS) Sutherland Jr., an Enrolled Agent and federally licensed tax practitioner, has been committed to tax preparation since 2005, leveraging over 25 years of experience in accounting and financial management. His entry into tax preparation came in 2006, when he was selected to manage and open an H&R Block office in Valencia, California. Prior to this, Mr. Sutherland served as a property accountant and worked with Steven Spielberg’s Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, where he sharpened his financial expertise.
At H&R Block, Mr. Sutherland led a team of six tax preparers, providing them with comprehensive training and ongoing support to enhance their abilities. His leadership, combined with a growing passion for tax law, motivated him to expand his knowledge and services beyond individual tax returns to focus on the unique needs of small business owners. This drive culminated in the founding of AUGUSTUS INC (dba AS Accounting and Tax Preparation Service). His mission is to be a trusted partner for small businesses and individuals, guiding them through the complexities of tax law, accounting, and financial planning.
Under his leadership, AUGUSTUS INC provides a full suite of services, including tax preparation, outsourced accounting/bookkeeping, outsourced CFO advisory, tax planning, and financial services. The firm specializes in S-Corporations, C-Corporations, LLCs, and sole proprietorships, delivering tailored solutions to meet each client’s specific needs.
Outside of his professional career, Mr. Sutherland has a strong passion for aviation. Since 2013, he has been an active member of the Civil Air Patrol, the official civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force. In 2015, he achieved his Private Pilot Certification and has logged over 300 flight hours, flying out of Van Nuys Airport in Southern California. His aviation journey continues as he works toward his IFR rating.
